Anyone who’s heard them speak knows that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) have contrasting styles and personalities.

According to Walker, it’s a regional thing.

“The demeanor you have does have an impact,” Walker said Thursday at a conservative gathering in Washington, according to the AP. He said that “the way that Chris has reacted to things actually fits” in New Jersey.

“I just have a Midwestern filter, that’s the difference,” Walker said. “I’m willing to speak out, but I’m not going to call you an idiot. I’m just going to say ‘That’s a ridiculous question,’ and move on.”

The outspoken Christie has made a habit of calling people idiots in public settings. Law students, former Navy SEALs, reporters and sportswriters have all felt the recently re-elected New Jersey governor’s wrath.
