The police chief of East Haven, Connecticut, is resigning from office after a scandal over the police force’s treatment of Hispanic residents engulfed the city.

The AP reports that Leonard Gallo was suspended as police chief in April 2010 after the FBI launched an investigation, but he was reinstated after his friend Joseph Maturo became mayor.

Mayor Maturo recently came under fire for declaring that he “might have tacos” to help mend the town’s relationship with Latinos.
