Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum has taken the lead in Gallup’s nightly tracking poll of the national Republican race. Gallup’s numbers are based on 1,000 interviews conducted over a five day period with registered Republicans and GOP-leaning independent voters. Santorum gets 32 percent in today’s results, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney gets 31, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich gets 14 and Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) sees ten.

The new Gallup data follows our TPM Poll Average, which has shown Santorum continuing to trend up.
