Republican Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval said Thursday that he notified the White House that he does not want to be considered as a nominee to the Supreme Court.

“Earlier today, I notified the White House that I do not wish to be considered at this time for possible nomination to the Supreme Court of the United States,” Sandoval said in a statement obtained by Nevada journalist Jon Ralston. “I have also spoken to Senators Reid, Heller and McConnell and expressed the same desire to them. The notion of being considered for a seat on the highest court in the land is beyond humbling and I am incredibly grateful to have been mentioned.”

According to a Washington Post report on Wednesday, the Obama administration was vetting Sandoval as a potential nominee to replace the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. The White House may have considered Sandoval as a way to put pressure on Senate Republicans to hold a hearing for the President’s eventual nominee.

  1. Someone’s phone rang right off the fucking hook yesterday haha. I wonder if Grassley or McConnell called first.

“Brian…BRIAN…listen to me…you can’t let him do this to us…we have to put up a united (storm)front…”

  2. That’s okay. Now we can move to trolling #2.

GOOD - while the strategy was intriguing I would prefer that Obama put forward a strong high integrity name worthy of the position and without any scent of ‘gamesmanship’ - and if the nominee is abused by the GOP - let history and the American electorate punish them harshly (and repeatedly)

  4. Sorry I didn’t tamp this down sooner Sen. McConnell! I was on a hunting trip with other elites and we don’t allow smartphones…er…actually my ego got the better of my partisanship.

  5. You mean that some of the hand wringing yesterday by some on this website because Sandoval is Republican was for naught? That the WH always knew this wasn’t going anywhere? Gosh…
