Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said Saturday that he supported Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s primary opponent in Florida and that he wouldn’t reappoint her at the DNC if he was elected president.

“Well, clearly, I favor her opponent,” Sanders said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “His views are much closer to mine than as to Wasserman Shultz’s.”

Rep. Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) is running against Tim Canova for her seat. Sanders sent a fundraising email on behalf of Canova, CNN reported.

Wasserman Schulz said in a statement that she would remain neutral in the 2016 election despite Sanders’ endorsement of her challenger.

“Even though Senator Sanders has endorsed my opponent, I remain, as I have been from the beginning, neutral in the presidential Democratic primary. I look forward to working together with him for Democratic victories in the fall,” she said in the statement.

Sanders has long criticized the DNC’s relationship with Hillary Clinton, his opponent in the race for the White House. Sanders also said in the interview which aired in full on Sunday that he would not reappoint Wasserman Schultz if elected president.

  1. Too bad. Sanders could use a payday loan right about now.

  2. Do Sanders and his supporters hate her for her policies or because she they believe she has used her position to favor HRC in the primary? I am always a bit taken back by the hatred directed at DWS – and to my ears, it has the same misogynistic tone that is directed at HRC.

  3. How about those tax returns? Jane still too busy? Still?

  4. I just don’t get the hate. When you ask the haters to explain their hate all you get is a bunch of stuff that doesn’t seem proportional or, indeed, much cause for just grievance.
