Tea party conservatives have blocked a budget plan backed by GOP leaders, a blow to Speaker Ryan and a reflection of the anti-Washington mood pushed by GOP front-runner Donald Trump. House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) is still Hamleting over his support for Donald Trump.

Politico reported that those in Ryan’s inner circle say that the speaker is torn between his personal feelings about the tape showing Donald Trump discussing grabbing women by the genitals and his desire to preserve the historic GOP majority in the House of Representatives.

Despite months of equivocation, Ryan is still considering formally unendorsing him, according to the report.

Ryan told members on a conference call Monday that he was going to focus the rest of the election season on supporting House members and that he would not campaign with Trump. However, Ryan immediately received push back and criticism from his rank and file members who believed Ryan was essentially handing the election to Hillary Clinton if he took that position.

Ryan’s in-between position has earned him criticism on both sides.

This is a profile in courage, lemme say.

  2. Noooh ! Paul Ryan is as loyal as the day is long…

Or he might not. He can’t decide. He’s check the polls. He’ll check his donors. He’ll check his Ouija board. He’ll ask his wife1. He’ll check his Marathon times. He roll the old D20. He check the wind direction. What to do…what to do…

1: Not intended to be a true statement.

  4. “Hamleting” is a good word to coin here. Because the role of Hamlet is about ACTING. Which is what this entire piece from politico is. Its Ryan/his staff ACTING like Ryan is having emotional turmoil. When in reality, Ryan is just trying to navigate a political difficult time so he can have his cake and eat it too. And the only thing emerging is that Ryan is actually not a very competent politician.

People that have jumped the Trumptantic are out…they cannot go back. Those who continue to support him have a rapidly closing window to jump ship too. People like Ryan are thoroughly screwed, they can never distance themselves from Trump after publicly playing this “will I or won’t I” game repeatedly. He made his choice, there is no option to change it later…live with it.
