CNN reports that both Russia and China have vetoed the United Nations Security Council’s resolution to impose new sanctions on the Syrian government. Western counties, led by the United States, had been pushing for the resolution, but Russia stood by its claim that it would neither punish nor change the current regime in Syria.

This is the third such resolution the two countries have vetoed.
