Russian foreign ministry officials have reacted angrily to the 25 year prison sentence handed down to the so-called ‘Merchant of Death’ Viktor Bout. Bout, perhaps the world’s best known black market arms dealer, was captured in Thailand in 2008, and eventually extradited to face terrorism and related charges in the United States. Russia has maintained that Bout is innocent and should be allowed to return home. In a furious statement released after Bout’s sentencing the Foreign Ministry attacked the American justice system and media.
