Sen. Marco Rubio said that his own version of the DREAM Act, which he intended to introduce, is now on hold after President Obama announced that the U.S. would no longer deport young undocumented immigrants brought to the country by their parents in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. Rubio said that Obama’s executive action makes it hard to justify his own legislation, which would have a similar effect.
“People are going to say to me, ‘Why are we going to need to do anything on this now? It has been dealt with. We can wait until after the election,’” Rubio told the Journal. “And it is going to be hard to argue against that.”
Since Obama’s announcement on Friday, aides to Rubio have hinted that Rubio might forgo his own legislation.
