Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) told a conservative radio show on Tuesday that a government shutdown would be a “diversion from the main problem, which is the harvesting of little babies’ organs.”

Both Johnson and radio host Vicki McKenna praised Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina for challenging Democrats at the CNN debate earlier this month to watch “sting” videos about Planned Parenthood that were produced by an anti-abortion group.

Fiorina said one of the videos showed “a fully formed fetus on the table, its heart beating, its legs kicking, while someone says we have to keep it alive to harvest its brain.” But afterwards, neither Fiorina’s campaign nor the organization that released the videos could point to the footage that showed what Fiorina described.

Johnson said on the radio program that he couldn’t describe the video footage better than Fiorina did at the debate.

“Yeah, the shutdown’s a diversion from the main problem which is the harvesting of little babies’ organs. We need to focus on the harvesting of little babies’ organs,” Johnson said.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) released a plan Tuesday that would avoid a government shutdown by extending funding levels for programs, including Planned Parenthood, temporarily until Congress could figure out a longterm budget plan.

“We’ll win that political fight. But if we’re diverted by the government shutdown then we know who wins that,” Johnson said. “The Democrats, you know quite honestly outside..”

“The media wins it,” host McKenna interjected.

“Yeah, the media wins it,” Johnson said. “Which is why they love promoting it.”
