Former Gabrielle Giffords aide Ron Barber, who’s running for this former boss’s House seat in Arizona’s 8th District, released his first campaign TV ad Wednesday. In the ad, Barber stresses border security, veterans benefits and the middle class.

“Running a family business, I saw how we can create jobs, and how government can get in the way,” Barber narrates. “As district director, I saw the need to secure the border and get our veterans the benefits they’ve earned. And every day, I see a middle class that’s disappearing. I approve this message, because I’ve seen what we need to do – rebuild our middle class.”

On Tuesday, Republican voters selected Iraq veteran Jesse Kelly to run against Barber in the district’s June 12 special election to replace Giffords.
