Romney: If I’d Made It Into The NFL, I’d Be A Career Football Player

Mitt Romney had a quick response to Newt Gingrich’s attack that “the only reason you didn’t become a career politician is because you lost to Teddy Kennedy in 1994.”

“That’s probably true,” Romney said. “And if I’d made it into the NFL when I was a kid then I would’ve been a career football player over my life.”

The audience, as well as Gingrich himself, all laughed at the response. Romney then said that losing the 1994 Senate race was probably “the best thing that could have happened” to him, in terms of preparing him for the job that he is now seeking — the Presidency — as it kept him involved int he private sector for several more years.
