Mitt Romney said that he will use the three presidential debates in October to set the record straight on what he called “extraordinarily inaccurate attack ads” against him in an interview with the Columbus Dispatch published Thursday. “I think much of what his ads have been doing have not been accurate or honest, and the debates will be an opportunity for people to understand that,” Romney said.
In particular, Romney looks forward to countering attacks on his tax plan. “They keep saying that I’m going to raise taxes on middle-income taxpayers, and that’s dishonest and wrong,” he said. “My plan has as its first principle a reduction in taxes for the middle-income taxpayers … The nice thing about debates is I’ll be able to point out what I just said, ‘Hey guys, my plan lowers taxes on middle-income people, it doesn’t raise them.’ ”
