Rolling Stone expects to publish an external review of a disputed article about an alleged gang rape at a University of Virginia fraternity early next month, CNN Money reported Sunday.
The article, “A Rape on Campus,” was published in November and described a horrific gang rape a student named “Jackie” said she experienced in 2012 at the school’s Phi Kappa Psi house.
Her story sparked a national debate about sexual assault on campus. But other news outlets began to poke holes in writer Sabrina Rubin Erdely’s reporting. Eventually, the magazine admitted there were serious discrepancies in Jackie’s account of the alleged rape.
In December, Rolling Stone asked Columbia Journalism School to conduct an independent review of the story. Publisher Jann Wenner told CNN Money that the results of that review would be published in the magazine in early April.
In addition, Charlottesville, Va. police plan to announce the results of their own investigation into the alleged gang rape in a news conference Monday at 2 p.m. ET.
