During his days at NBC, long before he built Fox News into a conservative media empire, Roger Ailes made a salacious offer to a female employee, according to an explosive forthcoming book.

The highly anticipated book, “The Loudest Voice in the Room” by Gabriel Sherman, was previewed Tuesday in the New York Times.

Sherman quoted a former producer who worked under Ailes back in the 1980s.

In one anecdote, a television producer, Randi Harrison, told Mr. Sherman that while negotiating her salary with Mr. Ailes at NBC in the 1980s, he offered her an additional $100 each week “if you agree to have sex with me whenever I want.”

A Fox News spokesman told the Times that the “charges are false,” but said “we have not read the book.”

Sherman’s book is slated to be released on Jan. 21.
