As TPM has reported, both Rick Santorum and a Republican PAC are using robo-calls to entice progressives in Michigan’s GOP primary to vote against Mitt Romney. According to Real Clear Politics, a Democratic strategist in the state, Joe DiSano, is also running robo-calls of his own in tens of thousands of households this week telling fellow Democrats to vote Santorum in order to “embarrass Mitt Romney and expose him as the weak front-runner that he is.” The same call also warns them not to vote for Ron Paul.

DiSano, whose Twitter profile describes him as an “all-around troublemaker,” isn’t exactly hiding his intentions — he wrote a Huffington Post piece urging Dems to vote Santorum in order to prolong the GOP primary and help secure Obama’s re-election. In addition to the robo-calls, he has also sent an e-mail appeal to 45,000 Democrats.

Democratic activists, led by the Daily Kos, have publicly urged Democrats to vote for Santorum for the same reason, but this is the most concrete example so far of a strategist actively following through on the idea.
