A Democratic candidate for governor in Pennsylvania wants to raise the state’s minimum wage to $10.70, which is above the national hike proposed by the Obama administration.

Pennsylvania state Treasurer Rob McCord (D) offered the proposed hike during a debate on Friday night, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

“Wal-Mart and McDonald’s can afford this,” McCord (pictured) said according to the Inquirer. “Let’s make them pay.”

The other Democratic candidates running for governor have called for raising the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour, which is what President Barack Obama and national Democrats are also proposing.

In February Wal-Mart said it was considering supporting a minimum wage hike. A spokesman for the nation’s biggest retailer told Bloomberg News that it was “looking” at a minimum wage hike.
