The U.S. on Friday is expected to announce a plan to boost missile defense in Alaska in response to recent threats from North Korea, Reuters reported Friday. The Reuters report said Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel will announce the plan at 3 p.m. ET.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney was asked about the report Friday on MSNBC.

“I want to point you to the announcement that’s coming out of the Defense Department, so I don’t have a lot on that for you,” Carney told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell. “We are obviously very mindful of the North Korean threat, as well as threats from other areas, that’s why we have pursued missile defense in the way that we have. But I’ll leave the specifics to the secretary of defense.”
