Republicans in Wisconsin now have a candidate for the state Senate seat of recall-targeted Republican Pam Galloway, who resigned last week citing family health concerns.

State Rep. Jerry Petrowski announced Wednesday that he is running for the seat, the Wausau Daily Herald reports.

The presumptive Democratic nominee is state Rep. Donna Seidel, who is also currently the Assistant State Assembly Minority Leader. General elections for the recalls are set to be held on June 5 — but if there are no primaries on either side for a particular office, then the primary date on May 8 will be the whole general election for that seat.

Galloway’s resignation also meant that Republicans have lost their majority in the now tied chamber, and must work out a temporary power-sharing arrangement with Democrats. It remains to be seen, however, whether that change will have any substantive impact over the next two and half months, with the legislature out of regular session.
