Al Jazeera reports that the UN refugee agency has said 100,000 Syrians have fled the nation’s civil war, the highest monthly total since fighting broke out 17 months ago. Approximately 80,000 refugees have reportedly crossed into Turkey since the insurgency began, while Jordan claims it has taken 183,000 Syrians in that time.

Meanwhile, both the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the Local Coordination Committees, a pair of opposition groups, have raised their death totals to somewhere between 23,000 and 26,000. Rebels claim that approximately 5,000 were killed in August, with 1,600 deaths coming last week, according to the Al Jazeera report. Both numbers represent the highest totals in their respective time frames.
