Ray Rice plans to appeal his indefinite suspension from the NFL on Monday, according to a report from Pro Football Talk.

The move by Rice comes a week after the Baltimore Ravens cut Rice from the team and the NFL suspended him indefinitely following the release of surveillance footage that allegedly showed Rice punching his then-fiancée, Janay Palmer.

The NFL Players Association and a lawyer retained by Rice will handle his appeal, according tot he report.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has the ultimate authority on the appeal because the suspension was imposed through the personal-conduct policy, Pro Football Talk said.

  1. good luck with that one.

  2. It’s the money. Should have thought of that before.

  3. In a way, Rice has got a good point: The suspension (such as it was) was already laid down; everything else was just CYA by the NFL and the Ravens.

The other can of worms this opens up is there will be more investigations into what Goodell knew and when he knew it. And if it comes out that Goodell lied, there is no way the owners will let him stay on, because he will be damaged goods, and so will anyone involved in this “process.”

  4. Goodell isn’t the brightest bulb in the box. The shield is going down and it’s long over due. Football has more problems than Carter’s has pills.

If football was a drug, it would have been recalled and banned a long time ago! The shield is going down! Robert Kraft - you are going to lose your empire!

Just over 35% of NFL veterans are suffering from some form of permanent brain damage: dementia, Parkinson’s disease symptoms, early onset Alzheimer’s, and even vision impairment. NFL players also die very young Vs the rest of the population.

If Football was a drug, it would have been recalled by the FDA from high schools and colleges a long-long time ago!

What’s really insulting is so many minorities playing college football and sports will never earn a real meaningful college degree. The public and especially the minority athletes have been duped. If all that time and money went into EDUCATION in our inner cities, many more minorities would have a much better future! But the media doesn’t cover this…they cover the sports cars being driven by MJ or Kobe or Ray Rice.

  5. And he should. In fact, he should sue if he can. Yes, he should have been penalized for his actions. But, he should NOT have been penalized for the NFL’s actions (or lack thereof). Even Rice himself may agree that the two game suspension was too lenient. Nonetheless, that is what the NFL decided upon. The release of the video changed absolutely nothing as far as his actions, for which he was punished by the NFL. Yet, the NFL used that as an excuse to remedy their mistake. THAT is BS! And THAT is what Rice is appealing. And, if he could, he should sue.
