Huma Abedin, the wife of embattled New York City mayoral hopeful Anthony Weiner and a top aide to Hillary Clinton, will take an extended vacation from the former secretary of state, according to a report Wednesday in Politico.

Sources told Politico that the break is not being characterized as a leave of absence and that Abedin had planned the vacation for weeks, due in large part to Clinton’s nearly empty schedule next month. It is unclear when Abedin, Clinton’s transition office chief, will begin the time off.

Abedin has been thrust into the spotlight following new revelations that Weiner was involved in more sexting incidents following his 2011 resignation from Congress. She has even drawn scrutiny herself, with conservative outlets like the New York Post and Fox News going after the Clinton confidant.

The tumultuous Weiner campaign took yet another turn on Tuesday when his communications director trashed a former intern who wrote a damning tell-all about her time with the NYC mayoral candidate.
