In a sign of its remarkable recovery from the recession and shifting vehicle preferences, Ford told Bloomberg on Friday that it plans to hire some 2,200 salaried employees in the U.S. in 2013, the biggest hiring spree since 2001.

The move will put Ford closer on its guarantee to the United Auto Workers to add 15,000 total new American jobs by 2015. Already, Ford has hired more than half that number. In total, the company ended 2012 with 28,000 salaried workers, Bloomberg reported.
