The Federal Bureau of Investigation has interviewed a number of potential witnesses over alleged harassment against Republican congressional candidate Carl DeMaio, according to NBC’s San Diego affiliate.
San Diego’s NBC7 reported that the FBI is investigating anonymous emails sent to former DeMaio staffer Todd Bosnich and his mother. In a June interview Bosnich said he and his mother received threatening emails.
Bosnich is the staffer who has publicly accused DeMaio of sexual harassment. DeMaio has strongly denied those accusations and said that Bosnich is just trying to retaliate against DeMaio after being fired from the campaign over a plagiarism scandal.
The FBI is asking about the alleged emails as well as Bosnich’s email account allegedly being hacked, according to a number of unnamed sources cited by NBC7.
The report that the FBI is getting involved the same day that the U.S. District Attorney’s office said no criminal charges would be filed over vandalism of DeMaio’s headquarters nor over allegations of sexual harassment. DeMaio has previously accused Bosnich of vandalizing the campaign’s headquarters.
