The Guardian reports that Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa has agreed to grant WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange asylum. Per an official familiar with discussions in Quito, “Ecuador will grant asylum to Julian Assange.”

Concerns now shift to transporting Assange, who had been living in Ecuador’s London embassy since June, to Ecuador. Said Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño, “For Mr. Assange to leave England, he should have a safe pass from the British [government]. Will that be possible? That’s an issue we have to take into account.”
