Apple will unveil the iPad 3 in New York sometime next week, CNBC reported Tuesday morning. The eagerly anticipated new device will have 4G LTE connectivity and a quad-core processor, according to the business channel’s unnamed sources. CNBC further reported on its website that Apple stock hit another all time-high shortly after the news, trading upwards of $530 a share.
The iPad 3 was widely expected to be released in the first week of March following a report from the Wall Street Journal’s All Things D blog on February 9. But All Things D reported that the device would likely be unveiled at an Apple event in San Francisco.
If the iPad 3 is unveiled in New York City, it would be the second major Apple announcement in the city this year, following the release of iBooks 2 and iAuthor on Jan. 19. Cue your “Big Apple” puns.
Updated 12:06 pm ET Tuesday, Feb. 28: The Verge is taking issue with the location reported by CNBC, writing that its sources say the event will not be held in New York. CNBC, though, has doubled-down on that report.
