The chief of staff for Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX) is running for the House seat being vacated for Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX).

After Stockman filed to run for Sen. John Cornyn’s seat (R-TX), Doug Centilli was one of five candidates who quickly filed to run for Stockman’s seat. A spokeswoman for the National Republican Congressional Committee confirmed to TPM that the Centilli who filed for Stockman’s seat is the same Centilli who serves as Brady’s chief of staff.

Centilli and Brady’s office did not immediately return requests for comment from TPM.

On Monday evening, Stockman filed to run in the GOP primary against Cornyn — filing just before the deadline. The move came as a surprise as Cornyn is one of the most conservative members of the Senate and has taken steps to try and insulate himself from a tea party primary challenge.
