As the House continues to pass partial spending bills rather than the Senate bill to re-open the entire government, a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) took to Twitter to lambast House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) for failing to deliver on his promise to pass a clean funding bill.
Adam Jentleson, Reid’s communications director, said that Boehner had approached Reid first about a spending bill that maintained sequestration without touching Obamacare. That’s the bill that the Senate passed prior to the shutdown.
Boehner also said, according to Jentleson, that he could get the bill through the House. The series of Saturday morning tweets is below.
State of play: House Rs are sitting on a clean CR which was @SpeakerBoehner‘s idea in the 1st place and would re-open the entire govt today.

@SpeakerBoehner first proposed the idea of a clean CR at $988B to Reid in a meeting in Boehner’s office on July 17. http://t.co/wNwBzf3P4v

In a meeting on September 12, @SpeakerBoehner reiterated to Reid that despite growing resistance, he could still pass a clean CR at $988B.

For months, @SpeakerBoehner assured Sen. Reid he could pass a clean CR at $988B. But now he has shut down the gov’t instead of passing it.
