In a fiery Senate floor speech as Donald Trump met with top party officials Thursday on Capitol Hill, Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) slammed Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) for embracing the billionaire, saying he must agree with Trump’s views that women “are dogs and pigs.”
Speaking about Trump’s morning meeting with House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus, Reid said his Republican colleagues made Trump’s candidacy a reality with their policy making.
“Since Sen. McConnell has so enthusiastically embraced Trump, you can only assume he agrees with Trump’s view that women are dogs and pigs,” he said. “You can only assume the Republican leader is not repulsed by Donald Trump’s vulgar behavior towards women.”
The Nevada senator also suggested Trump owes McConnell a thank you.
“Trump owes his candidacy to the Republican leader and to the policies that he’s led,” Reid said. “It was obstructionist, anti-woman, anti-Latino, anti-Muslim, anti-middle class, anti-environment and anti-Obama and anti-everything Republicans in the last eight years have made Donald Trump a reality.”
