Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) lambasted House Republicans on Wednesday for adjourning without voting on legislation to provide relief to victims of Hurricane Sandy.
“I am deeply disappointed that the House of Representatives have turned their backs on people who are suffering,” Reid said on the Senate floor.
Reid compared the effort to pass the supplemental funds — a Senate bill would have provided $60 billion in relief — to the strenuous debate over the so-called fiscal cliff, which lawmakers averted with an 11th hour deal on Tuesday night.
“It was a piece of legislation we all weren’t elated about, but it moved the ball forward,” he said of the bipartisan deal. “We have so many more hard decisions to make it the year ahead. So unlike others behind us in this Capitol, I’m not going to stoop to name-calling. I just want people to work and do what they need to do.”
