Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said that it would be a “bad day for our country” if Congress fails to pass immigration reform.
In an interview with ABC’s “This Week” that aired Sunday, Reid answered “yes” when asked if he believed both the House and Senate would pass reform legislation.
“Well, it’s certainly going to pass the Senate,” Reid said. “And it would be a bad day for our country and a bad day for the Republican Party if they continue standing in the way of this. So the answer is yes.”
Reid also dismissed Republican objections to including protections for LGBT as too politically difficult to achieve.
“If they’re looking for an excuse not to support this legislation, this is another one, but the American people are past excuses,” he said. “They want this legislation passed.”
