Rep. Denny Rehberg debuted his first ad of the 2012 cycle, a negative spot attacking Democratic Sen. Jon Tester. Titled “Honest,” the ad goes after Tester for being a tax-and-spend liberal and for voting with President Obama “95 percent of the time.”

“Sen. Tester voted for higher taxes, he voted to raise his own pay, he voted to give taxpayer-funded bonuses to Wall Street executives and he voted with President Obama 95 percent of the time in Washington,” said Rehberg spokesman Chris Bond in a press release. “Despite Tester’s desperate attempts to distract from his record with dishonest attacks, that’s what this race is about.”

The ad stands out for going on the attack, when first ads are generally positive and attempt to introduce candidates who have yet to win state-wide office to the voters.

An ad by Tester touting the senator’s strong ethics and refusal to take trips from lobbyists is already up in Montana.
