CNN reports that Syrian rebels claim to have captured a military base on the outskirts of Aleppo, the nation’s largest city and the current scene of the bloodiest fighting in the country’s civil war. The capture of the base netted four tanks for the Free Syrian Army. Over 120 insurgents were killed yesterday in both Aleppo and Damascus, and some 200,000 people have fled Aleppo since fighting began over the weekend, according to Bloomberg.

U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta told reporters on Sunday that he believes the regime’s current methods will “ultimately be a nail in [President Bashar] Assad’s coffin.” Arab League Secretary-General Nabil el-Arabi added that he believes the regime’s recent recriminations represent war crimes.
