Dharun Ravi, currently serving a 30-day sentence for spying on former Rutgers roommate Tyler Clementi, has filed notice that he will appeal his conviction. The notice claims that the bias intimidation statue used against Ravi, who originally faced up to 10 years in prison, is unconstitutional, and that numerous decisions by Superior Court Judge Glenn Berman “prejudiced the defendant’s ability to get a fair trial.”

The appeals process could take nearly two years before being heard by a three-judge panel.

In September 2010 Ravi installed a webcam to record Clementi kissing another man. Clementi committed suicide the day after discovering the webcam.
