Things just keep getting weirder around here.

A banner plastered with the image Russian president Vladimir Putin, labeling him a “peacemaker,” appeared Thursday on the Manhattan Bridge in New York City.

Two men were seen unfurling the approximately 20-by-30-foot banner at around 1:45 p.m. ET, witnesses told The New York Post. The New York Police Department told the newspaper that they received a 911 call about the banner at around 2:30 p.m., and police removed it at 2:55.

Twitter lit up with sightings of the bizarre banner displaying the likeness of the contentious figure, who has been praised by Donald Trump:

  1. This election is like real-life dark speculative fan fiction. Speculative, as in “What would it look like if… [now let your mind run wild]…?”

What would it look like if a narcissist were to run for President?
What would it look like if objective knowable truth didn’t matter any more?
    and now…
What would it look like if another country were to attempt to hack our democratic process?
What would it look like if supporters of a power we’d traditionally been at (cold)war with— or in a testy relationship with— were to promote its head of state over our own head of state (or, for election season potential head of state)?

Alas, truth IS stranger than fiction.

We have all slipped into a parallel universe, I swear to god.

Either that or all of you and all of this is a huge hallucination and I’m the only real thing in it.

Because this is truly head-detonating if you grew up like I did with the Iron Curtain and the Cold War and the “fucking Ruskies”

Maybe if I eat the mushrooms I’ve been saving for the right time everything will go back to normal…

  3. Donald Trump doesn’t like the sign, doesn’t dislike the sign, it’ll depend on how the sign treats him.

  4. Ha! Now seems like the right time
