Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus was highly critical of the idea put forward by some Never Trump GOPers that conservatives should rally behind an independent or third party alternative to Donald Trump. Priebus called it a “stupid” idea that would “ensure a liberal Supreme Court for generations” while on the Sean Hannity Show Monday, as reported by Buzzfeed.

Preibus was asked by Hannity if he had spoken to 2012 GOP nom Mitt Romney or Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE) about their desire to support a third party option.

“No, I have not talked Mitt Romney or Ben. I don’t believe it for a second,” Priebus said. “And you know what, in some ways, maybe I should talk to them about it, but, on the other hand, Sean, I start making phone calls like that, and then, it’s like, the party chairman is – and I’m not gonna give any gas to that fire.”

Priebus said he didn’t need to “acknowledge stupid ideas by calling people on those ideas.”

“All it will do is ensure a liberal Supreme Court for generations. I think that people will understand pretty shortly that this isn’t a game,” he said. “This is about the future of the country and we need to make sure that we have the White House.”

So the dreaded Over the Hill Gang has to rally behind the crazy guy. Sweet.

  3. Sounds like Rince is still pining and hoping for a White Knight savior at the convention.

Democrats have held the White House for 4 of the last 6 Presidential terms. I fail to see what Reince fears, 16 out of 24 years and we still don't have a firmly progressive SCOTUS. He needs to relax.
  5. Sen. Lisa Murkowski didn’t find it so stupid when talk show host and Teabagger Deluxe Joe Miller got the GOP nomination in 2010. Murkowski, who had been appointed to her Senate seat by her father, the then-governor of Alaska, was out in the cold.

But Alaska is so red and her name was so familiar that Senator Thanks Dad simply ran as an independent, beat the snot out of Milller as a write in with lotsa absentee votes, then declared herself a Republican again once the election was over. Miller was so furious, he nearly banged his head on the International Space Station.
