A pregnant woman died Sunday in Florida after she was accidentally shot in the head at a friend’s house, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Katherine Hoover, from New Port Richey, Fla., was visiting a friend in Brooksville, Fla. on Saturday along with her husband. Hoover was recently married and five months pregnant.

William DeHayes was showing Hoover his gun collection. While he was showing her his .22 caliber revolver, it accidentally fired and shot Hoover in the head, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

Hoover was taken to a local hospital and then airlifted to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Her unborn child could not be saved, and Hoover died in the emergency room early Sunday morning.

Police are still investigating the incident, but believe it was an accidental shooting, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

  2. Obviously there aren’t enough guns in 'merica.

Hey isn’t someone guilty of performing an abortion?

  3. If guns don’t kill people, why is it when a person kills a person by being irresponsible with a gun, we call it “accidental”? It’s not like the gun was being driven to work and the driver lost control. Someone took out a loaded gun and then, rather than acting with appropriate caution, did something that caused someone’s death - a fact that was a foreseeable consequence of carrying a loaded gun for no reason.

This - and every other “accidental” shooting - is involuntary manslaughter. And until we start charging people with that, these “accidental” shootings will continue forever.

  4. The gun accidentally fired and shot Katherine Hoover in the head.

Putting a loaded gun on display in a room full of people? I have a terrible feeling if homicide charges are brought at all, it will be because the unborn child was murdered.

  5. It makes it sound like, on its own, the gun just fired. Maybe guns DO kill people!
