A new CNN poll finds that the tea party movement’s favorable ratings have risen to their highest level in nearly two years, an apparent jump in the wake of revelations that the IRS targeted tea party groups for heightened scrutiny.

But the movement remains unpopular by a 37-45 percent margin. In March, it was 28-48 percent. Not since July 2011, when the debt limit debacle reached a fever pitch, was the movement’s rating as high as 37 percent.

The survey, released Monday afternoon, found that President Obama remains well-liked and popular.

It’s based on interviews with 923 adult Americans on May 17-18 and has a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.
