The post-election honeymoon for President Barack Obama may have come and gone, according to the latest poll from Quinnpiac University released Friday.
In the poll, 46 percent of registered voters said they approve of the job Obama is doing while 45 percent disapprove — a split that harkens back to the polarization seen before he secured a second term in November. The December poll from Quinnipiac showed 53 percent of the country approving of Obama while 40 percent disapproved.
After his defeat of former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, Obama’s approval rating saw an immediate surge. Many polls showed his approval rating in the mid-to-high 50s while the percentage of Americans disapproving his job performance often was in the low 40s. But his rating has slowly begun to even out in recent weeks, with Quinnipiac’s latest poll providing the clearest evidence of that.
