Despite battling low name recognition, two Democrats top Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett (R) in hypothetical matchups of next year’s gubernatorial election, according to a new poll from Quinnipiac University released Friday.

The poll showed state Treasurer Rob McCord (D) and Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D) each beating Corbett even though a huge portion of the Keystone State electorate isn’t familiar with either of the governor’s prospective opponents. Forty-five percent of voters said they would vote for Schwartz, who has declared her intention to run, while 35 percent gave the nod to Corbett. Seventy-two percent of voters said they haven’t heard enough of Schwartz to form an opinion.

McCord hasn’t yet announced if he’ll run and a whopping 85 percent of voters haven’t heard enough about him, but 43 percent said they would still support him over Corbett. The governor again trailed with 35 percent.

Nearly half of voters — 48 percent — said they disapprove of the job Corbett is doing and a majority of 52 percent said he does not deserve re-election.

The PollTracker Average currently shows Schwartz with a comfortable lead over Corbett.
