President Obama leads Republican nominee Mitt Romney by 5 points in New Hampshire, 45 percent to Romney’s 40 percent, according to a new poll from the University of New Hamsphire and sponsored by WMUR, an in-state TV station. From their report:

Pollster Andy Smith said the race may be closer than the 5-point margin indicates.

“One of the other things that makes me think this race is closer than the 5 percentage points that we’re showing in this poll is if you ask who’s most extremely interested in the race, 48 percent say they’ll vote for Romney,” Smith said. “Only 44 percent for President Obama.”

The PollTracker Average of the presidential race in the state closely mirrors the new UNH poll.
