Voters in Maryland are likely to approve a referendum on same-sex marriage, a Washington Post poll released Thursday shows. If passed, it would be the first time gay marriage has been legalized at the polls.

The poll shows likely voters in Maryland want to uphold a state law legalizing gay marriage 52 percent to 43 percent.

The poll sampled 934 registered voters and 843 likely voters and has a margin of error of +/- 4 percentage points.
