Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA) claims the support of nearly half of Massachusetts voters and leads Republican businessman Gabriel Gomez by 7 points in the state’s special U.S. Senate election, according to a new poll from Suffolk University released Monday.

The poll showed 48 percent of likely voters indicating that they will vote for Markey in the June 25 special election, while Gomez trails with 41 percent. Markey has boasted consistent leads in polls of the race. Suffolk’s previous survey conducted last Month showed Markey with a commanding 17-point lead over Gomez.

Only two polls since the beginning of May have shown the Democratic congressman with leads of fewer than four percentage points, both of which were conducted by Republican pollsters.

The PollTracker Average reflects this trend, currently showing Markey with nearly a 5-point edge.
