Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA) holds wide leads over potential Republican opponents in the Massachusetts special U.S. Senate election, according to poll results released Wednesday.

The poll from the UMass-Lowell conducted on behalf of the Boston Herald found Markey holding wide leads of at least 17 points over businessman Gabriel Gomez, former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan and state Rep. Dan Winslow. Markey did fall short of the 50 percent threshold in all three matchups, however.

The poll also showed Markey crushing Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA) among Democratic primary voters 50 percent to 20.5 percent. Lynch also topped all three Republicans by big margins in the poll.

The PollTracker Average shows Markey with a commanding lead in the primary race.
