A Sept. 2 poll conducted by Pulse Opinion Research shows that a majority of those surveyed believe the country is not better off since President Barack Obama’s election in 2008. Fifty-two percent of the 1,000 likely voters surveyed believed the nation is in “worse condition” than September 2008, with only 31 percent claiming the nation is in “better condition.”

Meanwhile, only 40 percent of those surveyed on the eve of the Democratic National Convention believe Obama should be reelected, and 50 percent noted they were “very unsatisfied” with Obama’s handling of the economy. And despite Obama’s aggregated lead among national polls, 46 percent of respondents believe Romney will win the Nov. 6 election, while only 43 percent believe Obama will win.

However, the poll sampled 36 percent Republicans, 34 percent Democrats, and 30 percent independents, which is at odds with national party identification trends, even among likely voters. Pulse Opinion Research is a subsidiary of Rasmussen Reports.
