A new survey of Minnesota from Public Policy Polling (D) finds both Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and former Gov. Tim Pawlenty with very low ratings in their home state, following their unsuccessful presidential campaigns, and both of them trailing in theoretical 2014 Senate bids against Democratic Sen. Al Franken.
Pawlenty’s personal favorable rating is only 39%, to 50% disapproval. Bachmann’s ratings are even lower at 34%-57%. In potential Senate match-ups, Franken leads Pawlenty by 49%-43%, and leads Bachmann by 54%-39%. The survey of registered voters was conducted from January 21-22, and has a ±2.8% margin of error.
Franken was very narrowly elected in the Democratic wave year of 2008, defeating Republican incumbent Sen. Norm Coleman in a race that involved a full recount and six months of litigation. As such, he could potentially be a top Republican target in two years. But for now, this poll gives him a positive approval margin of 49%-39%.
