A new survey of New Hampshire from Public Policy Polling, a Democratic-leaning firm, finds that Democrats are in a competitive position for both of the state’s House seats. The party lost both seats in the 2010 Republican wave, after having picked them up in 2006.

In the 1st District, former Democratic  Rep. Carol Shea-Porter leads 47 percent to 43 percent over Republican Rep. Frank Guinta, who defeated her in 2010. The survey of 502 registered voters was conducted from May 10-13, and has a 4.4 percent margin of error.

In the 2nd District, Republican Rep. Charlie Bass and Democrat Ann Kuster are tied at 42 percent each. Kuster previously ran in 2010, losing to Bass in an open-seat race. The sample of registered voters was also conducted from May 10-13, and has a 3.9 percent margin of error. Bass was first elected to the seat in 1994, and was defeated in 2006 by Democrat Paul Hodes. He then reclaimed the seat in 2010 when Hodes ran for Senate.

Also in the poll numbers, Guinta’s job approval in his district is only 36 percent, to a disapproval of 44 percent. Bass’s approval rating is even further underwater, at 34 percent to 49 percent.
