Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson is in a close race against Republican Rep. Connie Mack IV, in the new survey from Democratic-aligned Public Policy Polling.

Nelson has 45 percent compared to Mack with 43 percent, within the 3.3 percent margin of error. The survey of 871 registered voters was conducted from July 26-29. This is a stark difference from the previous PPP survey two months ago, which had Nelson at 49 percent and Mack with 36 percent.

PPP’s Tom Jensen writes: “We have generally found Bill Nelson running well ahead of Barack Obama in Florida. With this poll that’s no longer the case and it’s looking more like the undercard in the Sunshine State will be worth watching this fall as well.”

The PollTracker Average currently shows Nelson at 44.7 percent, and Mack with 43.6 percent.
