The latest Daily Kos/SEIU State of the Union poll, conducted by Public Policy Polling (D), finds both former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama facing some frosty attitudes from the American electorate.

The nationwide survey of registered voters shows that only 26 percent of respondents believe Romney has strong principles, while 61 percent believe he will say anything.

The poll also drew from a pair of Romney’s most notable gaffes on the campaign trail — the suggestions that corporations are people and that he doesn’t make “very much” money in speaking fees. A mere 24 percent of those questioned believe that corporations should enjoy the same rights as people and 81 percent believe that someone who earns $370,000 a year (the amount Romney earned in speaking fees in 2010) makes a lot of money.

The poll didn’t offer Obama much to be enthused about either. Only 42 percent of respondents approve the president’s job performance, while 53 percent disapprove. Obama’s favorability rating remains evenly split, with 47 percent viewing him favorably and 49 percent viewing him unfavorably.
