“Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson is set be honored at the 2015 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) with the “Andrew Breitbart Defender of the First Amendment Award,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Robertson, the star of the hit A&E reality TV show, became a conservative hero after he made homophobic remarks in a December 2013 GQ interview, leading the network to briefly suspend filming. He has since remained a vocal social critic, maintaining that he is “as much of a homophobe as Jesus was” and saying that “orthodox liberal opinion” leads to sexually transmitted diseases.
“Phil has the guts to do and say what most politicians in Washington won’t: You must adhere to your conservative beliefs, all of them, and never surrender or compromise them for anyone,” Breitbart News executive chairman Stephen K. Bannon said. “We are proud supporters of the Robertsons.”
The award is presented by Citizens United, the conservative group best known for Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, the 2010 Supreme Court case that permitted corporations to pour unlimited amounts of money into campaigns.
It’s amazing to me they are sooooo proud of this homophobic jackass they’ll give him an award for being a small minded dicklock.
WOW! An award named after a serial liar is presented to another serial liar…
In other words: Conservatives/Teatrolls now officially reward saying the kind of grossly bigoted and offensive things that lead to discrimination, hate crimes and holocausts.
Of course, given the guy’s ridiculous wealth, I think we know what this is really about.
I forgot CPAC was just around the corner. Great speaker lineup.
Brownback is one of the featured speakers. That ought to be worth the price of admission.
Good God, I couldn’t have picked a worse bunch than they did!
